Jared Abrahamson, best known for his work in The Changeling, has been confirmed for a significant recurring role in the upcoming Max original series The Penguin. The show, produced by Warner Bros Television and DC Studios, continues the gritty Gotham City crime saga launched by Matt Reeves in The Batman. Colin Farrell returns as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot, the crime boss he portrayed in the 2022 film, while Cristin Milioti joins as Sofia Falcone. Specific details about Abrahamson’s character have not yet been revealed, but the announcement has generated excitement among fans eager to see how his role will shape the story. The series will run for eight episodes and also features Rhenzy Feliz in a major part. Based on DC characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, The Penguin will follow Cobblepot’s rise in Gotham’s criminal underworld. The story will explore the dangerous alliances and rivalries that define his path to power, promising a dark and character-driven look at the city’s crime scene. The production brings together a strong creative team, with Matt Reeves serving as executive producer alongside Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, Lauren LeFranc, Craig Zobel, and Bill Carraro. Lauren LeFranc also acts as showrunner and lead writer, ensuring a consistent vision for the series. Craig Zobel directs the first three episodes, bringing his acclaimed storytelling skills from projects like Mare of Easttown. The series is produced by Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions, in association with Warner Bros Television. Daniel Pipski serves as executive producer, with Rafi Crohn as co-executive producer. Jared Abrahamson rose to prominence with his breakout performance in the independent film Hello, Destroyer. The role earned him recognition as a TIFF Rising Star and a Leo Award for Best Lead Performance. His portrayal of a young hockey player facing moral challenges drew praise for its emotional depth and authenticity. Since then, Abrahamson has built a diverse career in both film and television. His film credits include Topside, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, Jerrod Carmichael’s directorial debut On the Count of Three, and Nicholas Ma’s Mabel opposite Judy Greer. On television, he has appeared in series such as Ramy and the Canadian comedy hit Letterkenny. More recently, he starred in Apple TV+’s The Changeling and the feature film God’s Time. His upcoming projects include Henry Nelson’s Asleep In My Palm, where he appears alongside Tim Blake Nelson. Abrahamson is represented by Canopy Media Partners, Gersh, and Lauren Levitt & Associates. The addition of Abrahamson to The Penguin’s cast raises expectations for the series, which has already drawn attention for its strong ensemble and dark, cinematic style. Colin Farrell’s transformation into Cobblepot in The Batman was widely praised for its physical detail and layered performance. Fans can expect to see an even more complex version of the character as he moves from a mid-level gangster to a central power figure in Gotham. While the release date has not yet been announced, production is underway, and the show is expected to premiere within the next year. It will be available exclusively on Max, giving subscribers another chance to dive into DC’s expanding television universe. The combination of an experienced production team, a compelling story rooted in Gotham’s criminal underworld, and a cast that blends established stars with rising talent makes The Penguin one of the most anticipated upcoming series. The mystery surrounding Jared Abrahamson’s role adds to the intrigue, leaving fans to speculate whether his character will be an ally, a rival, or something in between. Whatever the answer, his performance is expected to bring new energy and tension to the unfolding saga of Gotham’s most notorious crime boss.
