Meaghan Rath has been cast in the new CBS comedy pilot, Jury Duty. She joins Jack Cutmore-Scott, who was announced earlier as part of the cast. Rath and Cutmore-Scott previously worked together on the Fox comedy series Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life. The pair began dating during that show and plan to marry this May.
Jury Duty centers on a group of jurors who are sequestered together until they reach a verdict. Despite the serious setting, the jurors can’t even agree on what to eat for lunch. Rath will play Jen, a sarcastic and slightly controlling character. Jen is a successful book editor who believes she is low maintenance but is actually quite high maintenance. She feels like the last single woman among friends who are all married with children.
Rath recently finished a three-season run on the CBS series Hawaii Five-0. Beyond Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving Life, she has starred in shows like Being Human, Rogue, and The Assistants. She has also made guest appearances on popular series including New Girl, Schitt’s Creek, and Banshee.
The pilot for Jury Duty is written and executive produced by Dana Klein and Stephanie Darrow. Additional executive producers include James Acaster, Kenton Allen, and Matthew Justice of Big Talk Productions. Christine Gernon directs and also executive produces the pilot. CBS Television Studios is producing the series.
CBS ordered a total of eight comedy pilots this season. Among these are two shows from executive producer Chuck Lorre. One is The United States of Al, which has received a pilot production commitment. The other is B Positive, starring Annaleigh Ashford and Thomas Middleditch.
