Saanich police are investigating a serious collision between a cyclist and a pickup truck that left the cyclist in critical condition. Authorities are seeking witnesses and video footage to better understand how the crash occurred.

The incident happened on July 28 around noon at the intersection of Greenridge Crescent and Quadra Street. This location is where the Lochside Regional Trail crosses the road. The Saanich Police Major Crime Unit is leading the inquiry, supported by the Traffic Safety Unit. Experts from traffic safety are helping with crash analysis and forensic work to piece together the exact events.

Police urge anyone who may have dashcam or surveillance footage from the area at the time to contact them. This evidence could be crucial to clarifying the details of the collision. Those with information can call the Saanich Police Department at 250-475-4321.

The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene after the crash. Police have seized the vehicle for further examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

In a statement, Inspector Damian Kowalewich expressed sympathy for the injured cyclist and their family. He said, “Our thoughts are with the injured cyclist and their loved ones during this very difficult time.”
