A man is dead and another is under arrest after a shooting at an apartment building in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Police say the incident took place Monday afternoon, leading to a heavy response from officers and an immediate investigation.

Authorities confirmed that the shooting happened shortly after 4 p.m. in the 30400-block of Cardinal Avenue. Officers were called to the scene following reports of gunfire inside the apartment complex. When police entered the building, they discovered that the violence had occurred in one unit of the complex. A man inside the unit was found dead, and another man present at the scene was taken into custody without further incident.

Investigators stated that the arrest was made quickly and that there is no ongoing threat to the wider community. Police stressed that the event appears to be contained to those directly involved, easing fears among residents living in the area.

According to police, the victim was already deceased by the time officers arrived. Emergency responders confirmed the death inside the unit, and investigators immediately secured the scene. The arrested man, whose identity has not been released, was located nearby and detained at the apartment. Authorities have not shared further details about his connection to the victim or whether charges have been laid.

Residents of the complex reported seeing a large police presence as officers blocked off parts of Cardinal Avenue. Some neighbors described hearing loud noises earlier in the afternoon, though police have not confirmed whether these were gunshots.

Local police have now transferred the investigation to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, which handles serious crimes such as murders. Officials say this is standard procedure in cases involving a death by suspected violence. The specialized team will lead the case moving forward, working to determine what led to the shooting and the relationship between the two men involved.

While investigators continue to gather evidence, they are urging anyone with information to come forward. Witnesses, nearby residents, or people who may have seen unusual activity in the area are asked to contact police. Authorities believe community input could help piece together the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.

Law enforcement officials were quick to reassure the public that there is no continued danger. Because the suspect was arrested at the scene, officers believe there are no other individuals connected to the shooting who pose a risk to residents. Police continue to maintain a visible presence in the neighborhood as part of their standard procedure.

For residents of Abbotsford, the incident is another reminder of how quickly violence can erupt, even in residential areas. The city, known for its mix of urban and suburban communities, has seen its share of violent crimes in recent years. Local authorities have invested in new safety tools and community programs to try to prevent such tragedies.

As the homicide team continues its work, the public’s help remains important. Police are encouraging anyone with knowledge about the shooting, or with surveillance footage from the area, to share it with investigators. Tips can be provided directly or through anonymous channels. Officials say that even small details could prove vital in building the case.

The Abbotsford apartment shooting has left one man dead and another in custody, marking a tragic moment for the community. Police hope the ongoing investigation will soon provide clarity and bring answers for those affected by the incident.
