Victoria police are investigating after a pedestrian died Tuesday evening in a crash in Esquimalt. The incident happened around 7:50 p.m. when a vehicle turning left from Head Street onto Esquimalt Road struck a man. Witnesses said the man appeared to be in his 70s and was in the crosswalk at the time of the collision. The intersection where the crash occurred is controlled by traffic lights and is known to be busy during the evening hours.

B.C. Emergency Health Services reported receiving a call about the crash at 7:51 p.m. Paramedics treated the pedestrian at the scene before rushing him to hospital in critical condition. Despite their efforts, the man later died from his injuries. Victoria police confirmed that the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. Authorities have not released any details about charges or the driver’s identity.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward. They are particularly interested in dashcam or other video footage that may help with the investigation. People with information can contact Victoria police at 250-995-7654, extension 1, and reference file 25-29039.

This tragic accident highlights the dangers pedestrians face at busy intersections, even when traffic signals are in place. Police continue to urge caution for both drivers and pedestrians in the area.
