Highway 97 eastbound in West Kelowna has reopened following a morning crash that temporarily blocked traffic near Bridge Hill. Emergency crews cleared the scene after nearly two hours of work.

The incident, which occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. on August 23, forced residents to adjust their travel plans, especially those crossing the William R. Bennett Bridge. Traffic control teams were on site to manage the flow while the crash scene was assessed.

Witnesses confirmed that the area has now been cleared, though delays are still expected as drivers navigate around the congestion caused by the incident.

DriveBC had initially reported that Highway 97 eastbound at Bridge Hill would remain closed for an extended period as crews worked to assess the scene. Updates were provided throughout the morning, with the next official notice scheduled for 11:45 a.m.

Social media reports indicated that a motorcycle may have been involved, but the exact number of vehicles and the condition of anyone involved remain unconfirmed. Authorities have not released further details regarding injuries or the cause of the crash.

Traffic delays affected both local and commuter routes as drivers sought alternate paths. Residents planning to travel across West Kelowna or use the William R. Bennett Bridge were advised to allow extra travel time and follow instructions from traffic control personnel.

Emergency responders arrived promptly and worked to secure the crash site. Their efforts ensured that all lanes reopened safely and efficiently. While the road is now open, motorists are urged to remain cautious and expect slower travel in the area due to lingering congestion.

DriveBC continues to monitor traffic conditions and provide updates to help drivers plan their routes. The agency recommends checking current road conditions before heading out to avoid unexpected delays.

This morning’s crash serves as a reminder for drivers to stay alert, especially during peak travel times and in areas prone to congestion. Local authorities stress the importance of following traffic control instructions and practicing safe driving to prevent further incidents.

Motorists in the West Kelowna area are encouraged to stay informed via official channels for real-time traffic updates and any additional reports regarding the crash.
