A deadly fire in Parksville claimed the life of one person on Saturday, June 28.

Parksville Fire Rescue responded to a fire at a mobile home park on Corfield Street North just before 7 p.m., according to Assistant Fire Chief Cam Cruickshank.

Firefighters arriving at the scene faced thick smoke, prompting additional 911 calls from concerned neighbors.

“When our duty officer arrived, he found a mobile home with flames coming from multiple windows, and fire spreading to another home to the east,” Cruickshank said.

The first crews quickly worked to extinguish both the main fire and the fire that had spread to the neighboring mobile home.

“There were reports the occupant remained inside. Sadly, crews found the homeowner deceased,” he added.

Parksville Fire responded with five vehicles and 20 personnel. Assistance came from Oceanside RCMP, BC Ambulance, and BC Hydro.

Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Residents in the mobile home park are shaken by the incident. Emergency responders continue to ensure the area is safe.

Fire officials urge residents to remain vigilant with fire safety, especially in mobile home communities. They recommend checking smoke alarms regularly and having an evacuation plan in place.

Parksville Fire Rescue emphasized the quick response of crews likely prevented further casualties and property loss.

Investigators are examining the scene to determine what started the fire. They are working carefully to rule out all possibilities.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the fire to contact local police.

The community has expressed condolences to the family of the deceased. Support services are available for residents affected by the fire.

This tragic fire highlights the dangers of residential fires and the importance of fire safety measures. Fire officials continue to urge local residents to follow safety guidelines to prevent similar tragedies.
