A single-vehicle crash shut down Pelmewash Parkway in Lake Country on August 23, sending a driver into police custody.

The incident occurred around 6:26 p.m. when a boat and trailer fell off a vehicle, blocking the parkway and prompting an emergency response. Two fire trucks and multiple police units arrived at the scene to secure the area and manage traffic. BC Emergency Services attended to one person for medical evaluation.

Police investigations revealed that the driver, an adult male, was arrested after failing a roadside breath test. RCMP officers read him the Roadside Screening Device demand, which led to his immediate handcuffing.

As a result, the driver received a 90-day Administrative Driving Prohibition. His vehicle was impounded for 30 days, and he was also fined for operating a non-commercial vehicle with an insecure load.

Cpl. Kent Hall confirmed that the driver’s parents were notified and came to the scene following the crash.

The crash required multiple tow trucks to remove the boat, trailer, and vehicle from the roadway. Authorities worked to clear the parkway and restore traffic flow safely.

No further injuries were reported beyond the initial medical assessment. Officials continue to investigate the crash, noting that the incident highlights the risks of unsecured loads and driving under the influence.

Motorists in Lake Country are advised to exercise caution, especially when towing trailers or transporting heavy equipment, to avoid similar incidents on busy roads like Pelmewash Parkway.
