Burnaby RCMP officers were very busy on Saturday evening. They had to deal with two different incidents on Highway 1. The first one was a car crash. The second was an arrest for drunk driving Burnaby.

The first call came in just before 5:30 p.m. It was about a three-car crash. The crash happened just before the Willingdon Avenue offramp. One of the drivers had some injuries. The injuries were not life-threatening. The driver was taken to the hospital. One car was so damaged it had to be towed away. The other two drivers were fine. They were not hurt. They were able to drive their cars away from the scene.

A police officer, Corporal Mike Kalanj, gave details about the crash. He said, “One of the drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital.” He added, “This vehicle was towed. The other two drivers were uninjured and able to drive away from the collision.”

About an hour after the crash, officers got a new report. A man was driving on the shoulder of the same highway. He was seen drinking from a bottle of vodka. The report said this happened on the westbound side of Highway 1. It was near the same area as the earlier crash.

Police acted fast. They were able to find the car quickly. The driver was arrested for drunk driving. His car was also towed away. Corporal Kalanj talked about this incident too. He said, “This incident occurred westbound on Highway 1 approaching the three-vehicle collision that occurred near the Willingdon Avenue offramp.” He also stated, “Police were able to attend the area quickly and locate the vehicle. The driver was arrested for impaired driving, and his vehicle was towed.”

The long weekend brings more cars to the roads. The roads in the Lower Mainland are much busier than usual. Police are asking drivers to be more careful. They want people to make smart choices. Drunk driving Burnaby is a serious issue, and police are cracking down on it. Corporal Kalanj expressed his concern. He said, “This blatant disregard for public safety is unthinkable.” He gave a strong piece of advice to everyone. He said, “Please make sound decisions before getting behind the wheel.” This simple plea is a reminder to all drivers.

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is very dangerous. It puts everyone at risk. It can lead to serious accidents, injuries, and even death. The police are working hard to keep the roads safe for everyone. The public needs to help them. People must not drink and drive. They should plan ahead. They can use ride-sharing services, taxis, or a designated driver. Taking these simple steps can prevent tragedies.

The two incidents on Saturday show how risky roads can be. A simple car crash can happen in a second. An impaired driver can cause a lot of harm. The police are doing their part to make the roads safer. They are increasing their presence. They are looking for dangerous drivers. But everyone has a role to play.

Making the right choice before driving is key. The police message is clear. Do not drink and drive. Be responsible. Be safe. This is especially true during a long weekend when more people are on the roads. The Burnaby RCMP will continue to be vigilant. They want to make sure everyone gets home safely. Their work on Saturday highlights the ongoing issue of unsafe driving. It also shows their commitment to public safety.
