The Township of Esquimalt has launched a new economic and investment attraction website to serve as a central hub for local businesses, investors, entrepreneurs, and community partners. The website, WhyEsquimalt.ca, provides a business directory, profiles of people living and working in the township, and data and resources for those interested in investing in Esquimalt. It also features an interactive community profile dashboard to explore the township’s economic landscape.

“One of our goals was to give local and prospective businesses a clear, accessible starting point to explore opportunities and connect with available supports,” said Terése Finegan, Manager of Economic Development. She added that the website streamlines access to business licences, support programs, and other resources, responding directly to the needs of the business community.

The website aligns with the township’s 2023–2025 Economic Development Action Plan, which highlighted economic development storytelling as a key initiative. Esquimalt says WhyEsquimalt.ca meets this goal by creating a dedicated platform to share the township’s story, attract investment, and produce compelling economic content.

Mayor Barbara Desjardins emphasized the importance of storytelling in building the township’s brand identity. “This new dedicated website will strengthen Esquimalt’s place brand by showcasing a unified narrative around livability, opportunity, and quality of life,” she said. “We have amazing businesses in all areas of Esquimalt and we’re thrilled to provide this resource to the community.”

WhyEsquimalt.ca aims to enhance the township’s economic visibility and provide investors with the tools and information needed to make informed decisions. The website also serves as a resource for entrepreneurs seeking to start or grow businesses in Esquimalt, highlighting the community’s opportunities and supportive environment.

The township believes that by offering accessible economic data, resources, and stories, the platform will encourage investment, strengthen local business networks, and enhance Esquimalt’s overall economic growth. The website is part of a broader strategy to attract investment, support local enterprises, and create a thriving economic ecosystem.

With WhyEsquimalt.ca, Esquimalt provides a modern, user-friendly tool that showcases the township’s commitment to economic development, entrepreneurship, and community growth. The site aims to connect people, businesses, and investors, helping to build a more vibrant and resilient local economy.
