Two men have been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run near Terrace, British Columbia, that occurred in November 2018.

Thirty-year-old Cameron Kerr was walking along the shoulder of Highway 16 in the early morning of Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, when he was struck by a vehicle. The crash happened about four kilometres west of Terrace. Kerr’s body was allegedly rolled into a nearby ditch, where it remained until discovered later that day by a passerby.

The RCMP described the investigation as complex. Insp. Mike Kim of the BC RCMP Major Crime Unit praised the investigative team for their work. “This was a very complex investigation and I am proud of the work of our skilled investigators to bring us to this important point,” he said.

Two men from Surrey, Taylor Stogryn, 36, and Conrad Wierzbicki, 34, have been charged. Both face charges of indignity to human remains and obstructing justice. In addition, Stogryn has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

RCMP said both men are expected to appear in court in the near future. Authorities have not released further details, citing the ongoing nature of the legal process.

The incident has drawn attention to the dangers of walking along highway shoulders, particularly during early morning hours. Experts stress the importance of visibility and caution when pedestrians are near roads, especially in rural areas.

Community members expressed relief that charges have finally been laid after years of investigation. The case highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in solving hit-and-run incidents, especially when evidence is scarce or delayed.

Terrace hit-and-run charges serve as a reminder of the legal consequences of leaving an accident scene. Officials continue to emphasize the importance of reporting crashes immediately and cooperating with investigations to ensure justice.

The BC RCMP Major Crime Unit continues to work on similar cases, aiming to bring closure to families affected by serious traffic incidents. Authorities also urge drivers to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and be vigilant in areas with pedestrian traffic.

This development marks a significant step in the pursuit of justice for Cameron Kerr and underlines the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to hold responsible parties accountable, even years after a crime occurs.
