A woman has died after a serious incident in Richmond, B.C., that police are treating as a homicide. One man has been arrested in connection with the case, according to local authorities.

The event happened late Friday morning on Capstan Way, near the intersection with Sexsmith Road. Police say officers were called to the home around 10:40 a.m. in response to an emergency.

When officers arrived, they found a woman with critical injuries. She was quickly taken to a nearby hospital but could not be saved. Medical staff confirmed her death shortly after arrival.

Details about the victim’s identity have not yet been shared. Authorities have also not confirmed if the suspect and the woman knew each other.

Police have arrested a man at the scene. So far, his name has not been made public. However, law enforcement officials have stated that there is no further risk to the general public.

The case is now in the hands of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, or IHIT. This team is responsible for handling major cases like this across several cities in British Columbia.

IHIT will now lead the investigation and is expected to release more information as the case develops. Officers are also asking any witnesses or people with helpful information to come forward.

At this stage, police are working to understand the full story of what happened inside the home. Investigators will look at forensic evidence from the scene and conduct interviews with those who may have known the people involved.

This latest incident adds to the growing number of homicides being handled in the region. While violent crime is still relatively low in Richmond compared to other major cities, each case like this is treated with high concern.

Law enforcement officials have urged the public to remain calm and not to speculate while the investigation continues.

People living in the area reported seeing several police vehicles on Capstan Way shortly after the call came in. Some residents say they were surprised by the heavy police presence in what is usually a quiet neighborhood.

There were no other reported injuries during the incident, and police say the situation is now under control.

Anyone with security camera footage, dashcam videos, or other information from the area around Capstan Way and Sexsmith Road during that time is being asked to contact investigators.
