A 28-year-old man has been arrested after a stabbing on a Vancouver bus early Sunday morning. The incident happened near the intersection of Burrard Street and Cornwall Avenue in the Kitsilano area, shortly before 3 a.m.
When police officers arrived, they found a 22-year-old man suffering from life-threatening stab wounds. The victim was taken to hospital and is now receiving treatment. His current condition has not been shared with the public.
Authorities identified the suspect as Parsa Ganjizadehzavareh. He was arrested near the crime scene shortly after the attack. Police have charged him with three serious offenses: aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Officers have not shared any possible motive for the stabbing. Investigations are ongoing.
The Vancouver Police Department has asked the public to come forward if they witnessed the event or recorded any video of the scene. These details could help officers better understand what happened and strengthen the case against the suspect.
Later that same morning, another violent incident took place in Surrey, about 45 minutes from downtown Vancouver. At around 11:05 a.m., police received multiple reports of gunshots near 152nd Street and 96th Avenue in the Guildford neighbourhood.
Officers from Surrey RCMP and other support units arrived quickly at the scene. There, they found many bullet shell casings scattered on the ground. However, there were no injuries reported, and no victims were found in the area.
“Fortunately, nobody was injured as a result of the incident,” said Sgt. Tige Pollock of the Surrey Police Service in a public statement. Authorities have not confirmed whether the shooting was targeted or random.
Investigators are asking for help from the public. Anyone who was in the area during the shooting, or who has security camera or dashcam footage, is urged to contact the police. Tips can be shared by calling 604-599-0502.
The two incidents—though separate—highlight a weekend of violence in two busy parts of British Columbia. The stabbing on the Vancouver bus has already led to charges, while the Surrey gunfire case remains under active investigation.
Public safety remains a top concern for law enforcement. Police continue to patrol high-traffic areas and work with the community to gather information. Authorities stress the importance of sharing even the smallest piece of information, as it could make a big difference in solving these cases.
Both events serve as a reminder of the importance of community awareness and quick reporting. Timely calls from witnesses helped police respond fast and take the necessary steps to protect public safety.
