The Campbell River Tyees have officially secured their place in the B.C. provincials after an action-packed weekend of 11U baseball filled with heart, determination, and edge-of-your-seat drama.

Their journey to the provincial stage began on July 26, with everything on the line in a tense elimination matchup. Facing Victoria, the Tyees found themselves behind early in the game. But rather than give up, the young team dug deep and mounted a powerful comeback. With timely hits and sharp fielding, they flipped the scoreboard and clinched a thrilling victory.

That win set the stage for an even bigger challenge on Sunday — a high-stakes final against Duncan, the tournament hosts. The two teams battled fiercely from the very first pitch. Neither side gave an inch, and the scoreboard reflected the intensity. At the end of six innings, the game was locked at 10-10.

With both teams refusing to back down, the showdown moved into extra innings. In the top of the seventh, the Tyees broke the tie, scoring two crucial runs that gave them a slim lead. When Duncan stepped up to bat in the bottom of the inning, Campbell River’s defense stepped up as well. With strong pitching, quick fieldwork, and focused energy, the Tyees shut down Duncan’s hopes and closed out the game.

The final score secured not just a tournament win but also a ticket to the provincial championships. The moment was met with cheers and celebrations as the players, coaches, and families soaked in the reward of their efforts.

Organizers offered heartfelt thanks to Duncan for hosting the Island Zone tournament. Praise was also extended to all the participating teams from across Vancouver Island. Throughout the weekend, the tournament showcased not only talent but also the true spirit of sportsmanship and teamwork.

For the Campbell River 11U squad, the victory marks a major milestone. After months of training, league games, and hard work, their path now leads to Richmond. This weekend, the Tyees will represent the Island zone at the B.C. provincials. The team is expected to face strong opponents, but their recent performances show they are more than ready.

Players and coaches alike are excited for what’s ahead. The focus now turns to preparation — sharpening skills, studying strategies, and building team chemistry even further. While the road to the top won’t be easy, the Tyees have already proven they have what it takes to rise under pressure.

The provincial tournament will be a chance for the young athletes to test themselves at a higher level and gain experience that will shape their baseball journeys. Win or lose, their determination and teamwork have already earned them praise and recognition.

Support from families and local fans remains strong as the community rallies behind the young team. With high spirits and eyes on the prize, the Campbell River Tyees are ready to give it their all at the provincials.
