Vancouver police are seeking a man and a woman suspected of attempting to rob an 84-year-old woman in downtown Vancouver.

The incident happened just before 11:30 a.m. on Sunday near the intersection of Homer and West Pender streets. The elderly woman was standing there when the couple approached her and tried to forcefully take her belongings, police said.

According to Vancouver police, the suspects accused the senior of stealing from them. One of the suspects reportedly grabbed the woman’s cane, while the other tried to snatch her purse from her shoulder.

Despite their efforts, the senior held onto her purse until another person stepped in to help. Afterward, the suspects walked away and were last seen heading north on Homer Street.

On Tuesday, police released video footage showing the man and woman walking along the sidewalk on Homer Street. They hope the video will help identify the suspects and find witnesses.

“Every sign points to this senior being targeted because she looked vulnerable,” said Vancouver police spokesman Sgt. Steve Addison. “We’re sharing this video to identify the suspects and speak with witnesses. We know at least one person helped during the incident, and we want to hear from them.”

The suspects are described as follows: a woman with long dark hair, wearing a brown T-shirt and black pants, with several tattoos on her arms; and a man with long brown hair, dressed in a grey T-shirt and grey pants.

Anyone who saw the event or has information about the suspects is asked to contact Vancouver police at 604-717-4021.
