The Sidney Auto Extravaganza is set to return on August 2 and 3, promising an exciting weekend for car lovers. This event will transform Beacon Avenue in downtown Sidney into a massive outdoor car display.

Organizers expect at least 20,000 visitors to come and enjoy the show. More than 350 vehicles will be on display, from classic hot rods to the newest Corvettes. The cars will be lined up along Beacon Avenue, stretching from Fifth to Second streets.

Jim Clayton, president of the Torque Masters Car Club and the event’s lead organizer, stressed the importance of community involvement this year. He said the event aims to unite the community and support local businesses. “Our vision is really to get everybody involved,” Clayton said. “We want to make sure visitors support the businesses in downtown. I think it’s really important this year, more than any year, that we support the Canadian side of things.”

The festivities begin on Saturday afternoon with a poker run from 1 to 3:30 p.m. This event combines a scenic drive with the excitement of poker. Drivers will travel to various stops to collect playing cards. The best poker hand at the end wins a special prize.

Immediately after the poker run, a block party will start at 3:30 p.m. Third Street will be closed off for this lively gathering. Guests will enjoy classic rock music performed by the band Saxum.

Adding more fun, Star Cinema will screen the movie Transformers from 4 to 6 p.m. Attendees can enter by donating cash or a non-perishable food item. All donations will go to the Saanich Peninsula Lions Food Bank.

The main car show takes place on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. Sidney-based rock band The Haven will open the day with a live performance at Beacon Avenue and Fifth Street.

Visitors will find a wide range of vendors selling food, drinks, and car-related merchandise. There will be trophies awarded for various categories, dash plaques for participants, and door prizes.

The first 350 cars registered for the show will also receive special 2025 commemorative car show license plates. This adds a unique keepsake for participants and collectors.
