Coldstream has received $40,000 to improve its emergency preparedness as wildfire season intensifies in the Okanagan region. This funding will help the district update and strengthen its emergency response plan to better handle both small and large-scale emergencies.

The district is currently revising its emergency plan to create a modern system that ensures clear communication and efficient evacuation procedures. These updates are vital for protecting residents during emergencies like wildfires and other natural hazards.

To support these important improvements, Coldstream applied for funding through the Union of BC Municipalities’ Community Emergency Preparedness Fund. The successful application means the district can now enhance its emergency response and communication systems along with its evacuation plans.

The Community Emergency Preparedness Fund provides financial support to local governments, First Nations, and communities to boost resilience against natural disasters and climate-related risks. It is funded by the province and managed by the Union of BC Municipalities.

Coldstream’s use of this $40,000 grant aims to improve how the district communicates during emergencies and ensures residents can evacuate safely if needed. This proactive step comes at a crucial time as the wildfire season in the Okanagan is becoming more severe.

By updating its emergency plan with this funding, Coldstream is working to safeguard the community and reduce risks linked to natural hazards. The enhanced plan will guide the district’s programs and actions during emergencies, helping to protect lives and property.

The grant supports Coldstream’s commitment to building a stronger, more prepared community in the face of growing climate challenges.
