A 31-year-old man from Kamloops has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for illegal firearms manufacturing and breaking a court order related to gun possession. Adrian Picketts-Yoxall received his sentence on Wednesday, July 30, following a police investigation that began in late 2021. The goal is to inform residents about its monthly donor program, which supports cancer research and patient care in British Columbia. Construction has started on the new BC Cancer Centre Kamloops, bringing improved cancer care to the Thompson-Cariboo-Shuswap region. The centre will be located at the Westlands site beside Royal Inland Hospital. This project is the largest health investment ever made in Kamloops, with a cost of about $386 million funded by the province and the Thompson Regional Hospital District. EllisDon Corporation leads the construction, which is set to finish in 2028. Expectant families in Kamloops are facing ongoing uncertainty as maternity care services at Royal Inland Hospital remain unstable. A shortage of local doctors is causing gaps in labour and delivery coverage that are expected to continue until the end of August. Interior Health has confirmed that some pregnant patients may need to travel to other hospitals to safely deliver their babies. These service gaps are set to begin on Saturday.
