A former trustee candidate in Chilliwack must pay $3,200 in penalties for exceeding contribution limits during her 2022 election campaign. The fine stems from a breach of the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act when she accepted and failed to return a prohibited donation. Lucie Pineau ran for a trustee seat in the 2022 elections for the Francophone School District. She served as her own financial agent. During that campaign, she recorded a personal contribution of $9,627. The limit for unendorsed candidates that year was $2,500. Thus, her extra $7,127.49 was deemed prohibited. Over 150 teen hockey players from B.C. and Yukon met in Chilliwack from July 24 to 27. They joined a top-level training camp run by BC Hockey. This annual event, called the Program of Excellence, helps select players for future national competitions. The camp was held at the Chilliwack Coliseum. The U18 girls group included 76 players born between 2008 and 2011. They aim to join Team B.C. at the 2025 U18 Women’s National Championship. That event will take place in Newfoundland in November.
