From August 7 to 17, visitors and locals can enjoy free guided walking tours of more than 50 murals in downtown Chilliwack. These tours are offered by Chilliwack Tours, led by local guide Michael Berger, in partnership with the Chilliwack Mural Festival.

With the Vancouver Mural Festival no longer running, Berger aims to “fill the void” by providing an engaging way to explore Chilliwack’s rich mural art. The tours give participants a chance to learn about the stories, history, and creativity behind the murals that brighten the city.

Berger will lead all 14 tours during the festival. While the tours are free, they operate on a tip-supported basis. Visitors can choose to donate in person or add a donation when registering through Eventbrite. All proceeds will go toward funding a future mural project sponsored by Berger.

“Walking tours are one of the best ways to experience a city,” Berger said. “The mural festival connects people to the stories behind the art — and the people who bring those stories to life.”

The tours cover a wide range of themes and areas. Highlights include the early years of the Chilliwack Mural Festival, an introduction to new murals unveiled this year, and a special Indigenous art and artists tour. There are also accessible tours and focused walks exploring District 1881, Central Village, Main Street, and more.

Lise Oakley, executive director of the Chilliwack Mural Festival, praised the collaboration. “These guided tours add real depth to the festival. They help visitors and locals connect with the murals in a meaningful and memorable way.”

All tours are family-friendly, accessible, and open to the public. Although free, tips are welcome to support future mural projects. Due to limited space, advance registration is required on Chilliwack Tours’ Eventbrite page at eventbrite.ca/o/chilliwack-tours-113184194891.

In the coming days, four additional tours will be added — two on August 15 and two on August 16. These will be led by volunteer guides from the Chilliwack Mural Festival.

This new offering invites everyone to explore Chilliwack’s public art and discover the unique stories that paint the city’s vibrant culture.
