Cranbrook is preparing for a major summer event as Lake Koocanusa gets set to host the 2025 BC Wakesurf Championships. Scheduled for Saturday, August 16, the event invites wakesurfers of all ages and skill levels for a full day of exciting rides and beachside fun.

The championship is presented by SWS Marine Group and will take place at Koocanusa Village, located just outside Cranbrook. Riders from across British Columbia are expected to join in, and spectators are welcome to enjoy the action.

Registration for the event is now open and must be completed by Sunday, August 11. No late entries will be accepted. Organizers encourage early sign-ups to avoid missing out on this exciting day.

“We are so excited to bring wakesurfers of all ages and abilities together,” said Loree Duczek, one of the event organizers. “This is a great way to build excitement for the sport and bring our surf community together for one epic day.”

The event will feature a mix of beginner and advanced riders competing for various prizes. Alongside the competition, visitors can enjoy food from a local food truck, games on the beach, and a welcoming summer atmosphere.

Organizers also plan to set up a live video feed near the beach so guests can easily watch the competition. Visitors are invited to bring lawn chairs and cheer on the athletes throughout the day.

Lake Koocanusa, located near Cranbrook, offers the perfect setting for water sports with its calm waters and scenic views. It has become a favorite destination for boating, camping, and now, wakesurf competitions.

The BC Wakesurf Championships aim to grow the sport by encouraging participation from all levels. First-time riders will have the chance to learn from experienced athletes and become part of a supportive community.

Wakesurfing is a water sport that combines surfing and wakeboarding. Riders surf the wake created by a boat without being pulled directly. The sport is gaining popularity across Canada for its relaxed style and smooth flow.

The Cranbrook-area event is designed with both athletes and families in mind. There will be beach games, community engagement, and a fun, laid-back vibe throughout the day. Whether you’re a competitor or just stopping by to watch, there will be plenty to enjoy.

All riders must register in advance, and no on-site or late registrations will be accepted after August 11. The organizers stress the importance of timely sign-ups to ensure a smooth experience for everyone.

The event also promotes safe and responsible participation. Riders are encouraged to wear safety gear, and event staff will be available to help with any questions or needs.

As Cranbrook welcomes this exciting provincial event, organizers hope to inspire more people to get involved in wakesurfing. It’s not just about competition—it’s about bringing people together to share their love for the water.

To learn more or register, interested participants can visit the event’s official registration page. With just a few days left, now is the time to get ready for one of the most exciting summer events in the Cranbrook area.
