Cranbrook will once again host one of the region’s top classic rock events. Rock the Kootenays Festival is set for August 7, 8, and 9, 2026, after city council approved plans to move forward with a fourth edition of the three-day festival.

For the past three years, the festival has drawn thousands of visitors, establishing Cranbrook as a hub for classic rock. Held annually after the BC Day long weekend, the event has boosted local tourism and generated significant economic benefits. Conservative estimates place the direct economic impact at more than $2.5 million.

Despite slower ticket sales in 2025, the festival has remained financially successful overall. The city earned $77,535.10 from the 2023 edition and $133,843.73 in 2024. The 2025 festival ended with a modest loss of $14,011.69, reflecting rising costs and changing ticket trends.

Trevor Thors, Director of Recreation and Culture, said the city is adapting to these challenges. “We have developed a lean operational budget and some new strategies to manage rising artist fees while building strong sponsorship partnerships,” he explained. “With council’s approval of the three-day format, we will begin booking artists and arranging logistics immediately to ensure a lively and successful Rock the Kootenays Festival in 2026.”

The 2025 lineup featured notable acts, including The Odds, Honeymoon Suite, Streetheart, Colin James, Men Without Hats, 54.40, the Trews, Haywire, Sweet, Aaron Pritchett, and Five Man Electrical Band. Festival organizers plan to bring an equally strong lineup for 2026, promising music fans three days of classic rock performances.

City officials also note the festival’s positive impact on local businesses. Hotels, restaurants, and retail stores benefit from the influx of visitors, while the festival itself helps raise Cranbrook’s profile as a destination for live music events.

The event’s success over the years demonstrates a strong demand for large-scale music festivals in smaller cities. Organizers aim to maintain the festival’s reputation while adapting to economic pressures and audience expectations. By keeping operational costs in check and leveraging sponsorships, they hope to continue generating revenue and community excitement.

Rock the Kootenays Festival has become a staple for both residents and tourists. Its combination of classic rock nostalgia, local culture, and tourism promotion makes it a unique event in the region. Organizers are optimistic that the 2026 festival will attract even more visitors, bringing music, community energy, and economic growth to Cranbrook.

Tickets for Rock the Kootenays Festival 2026 are expected to go on sale in the coming months. Fans and local residents are encouraged to stay updated on announcements about the artist lineup and event schedules. With careful planning and a proven track record, the festival is set to continue its tradition of delivering memorable performances and supporting the local economy.
