The Daves Creek wildfire near Kelowna is now under control, officials confirm. The fire grew to 2.53 hectares before being contained after quick firefighting efforts. Currently, 12 firefighters remain on site to mop up and monitor hot spots. Residents can expect some lingering smoke and ongoing tree removal work by the wildfire service. Firefighting equipment will continue moving through the area for safety and cleanup.

Central Okanagan Emergency Operations has lifted the evacuation alert for three addresses on Goudie Road in the Joe Rich area: 5609, 5615, and 5619 Goudie Road. About 25 other homes that were evacuated earlier have been cleared for residents to return.

Highway 33 east of Kelowna has reopened to single-lane alternating traffic after being closed due to the wildfire. However, Goudie Road remains closed as fire crews continue their work in the area.

The Daves Creek wildfire began around 1:30 p.m. on August 10. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the BC Wildfire Service. The initial response included three attack crews and three helicopters, along with support from Joe Rich Fire Rescue. Their swift action helped keep the fire from spreading further.

Environment Canada forecasts warm temperatures between 28 and 33 degrees Celsius through Thursday in the Kelowna area. There is a slight chance of rain on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, with highs around 24 degrees Celsius over the weekend. These weather changes could help lower the risk of new fires in the region.
