A tragic road accident in Langford has left a woman dead and two others seriously hurt after a head-on crash on Sunday afternoon. The crash occurred on Sooke Road, a busy route in the Greater Victoria area of Vancouver Island.

The incident happened around 4:10 p.m. According to police, a grey Hyundai Elantra was driving west when it suddenly crossed the center line. It then crashed into a white Toyota Avalon heading the opposite direction. The driver of the Hyundai, a 34-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not yet been made public.

The crash caused severe damage to both cars. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and worked to help the injured. The two people inside the Toyota were hurt but are expected to survive. They were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police closed Sooke Road for several hours to allow investigators to work. Traffic was diverted until around 8 p.m. Drivers in the area experienced delays as emergency workers cleared the site and gathered evidence.

Officers from the West Shore RCMP are leading the investigation. They are still trying to understand what caused the crash. So far, they say witnesses reported seeing the Hyundai cross into the wrong lane before the crash happened.

Investigators are now asking the public for help. They are urging anyone who may have dashcam footage of the crash or the area around it to come forward. In particular, they are looking for video that shows the grey Hyundai Elantra traveling west on Sooke Road before the collision. This footage could help explain why the car veered off course.

This section of Sooke Road is known for heavy traffic and limited visibility in some areas. The crash adds to ongoing concerns about safety on this route. Local drivers have often expressed worry about speeding and risky driving on this stretch of road.

Police have not yet said whether alcohol, drugs, or distraction played a role in the crash. A full investigation will take time as officers collect statements and review evidence. Officials are also working with crash analysts to recreate the scene and better understand what happened in the moments before the crash.

Events like this serve as a painful reminder of how quickly lives can change on the road. Authorities urge all drivers to stay alert, follow speed limits, and avoid distractions while driving. Even a moment of carelessness can lead to lasting harm.

The West Shore RCMP continues to investigate and hopes that anyone with helpful information will come forward. Those with video or other evidence related to the crash should contact police directly.

While the road has reopened and traffic has returned to normal, the impact of the crash will be felt by the families involved for a long time. The community is mourning the loss of the young woman and hoping for the recovery of the injured passengers.
