Ryan Tougas, a top BMX cyclist from Pitt Meadows, is set to compete for Canada at the 2025 UCI BMX Racing World Championships. The international event takes place this weekend, August 2 and 3, in Copenhagen, Denmark. Athletes from around the globe will race for the rainbow jersey — a symbol of becoming a UCI World Champion.

Tougas, 23, will compete in the Elite Men category. He is one of 13 Canadian riders selected for the national team. The team includes racers across Elite, U23, and Junior categories. They will all take part in this year’s world championship in the Danish capital.

Tougas has been gaining recognition on the world stage. Last year, he was the top Canadian finisher in his class. He placed 12th at the World Championships held in South Carolina, USA. This strong performance helped secure his place on the national squad again this year.

Cycling Canada, the governing body for competitive cycling in Canada, praised Tougas for his steady progress. In a recent statement, they called him “a consistent international threat who is looking to breakout in Copenhagen.” The organization sees him as a key figure for the team’s success in Denmark.

The Canadian team will be led by Adam Muys, a highly experienced coach from Maple Ridge. Muys has guided the Canadian BMX squad through the last three Olympic Games. His experience includes working with riders at multiple world championships and major international events.

Muys believes this year’s team has both potential and energy. With a mix of veterans and up-and-coming talents, he expects strong performances across all categories. Tougas, as a seasoned Elite rider, is expected to inspire younger teammates.

This weekend’s event in Copenhagen will feature intense competition. The French team is expected to be the strongest in the Elite Men division. Riders from Australia, Switzerland, New Zealand, and the United States are also seen as serious contenders for podium finishes.

The BMX World Championships are one of the sport’s most important events. Racers compete on a tight dirt track filled with jumps and sharp turns. Success depends on a mix of speed, control, and quick decision-making. Winning the rainbow jersey is one of the highest honors a rider can achieve in BMX racing.

Tougas has been training hard for this opportunity. With strong results in past races and support from Canada’s national coaching staff, he enters the competition with high hopes. His goal is not just to make the finals but to place among the best in the world.

The event in Denmark also serves as a key moment in the lead-up to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Top performances here can help riders build momentum and secure spots for future global events.

Fans back home in Pitt Meadows and across Canada will be cheering for Tougas and his teammates. Their races will be broadcast online, allowing viewers to watch the action live. As Canada’s top BMX racers take on the world, all eyes will be on the track in Copenhagen.

With talent, focus, and the right mindset, Ryan Tougas hopes to make a mark at the 2025 UCI BMX World Championships. For him, it’s not just about medals — it’s about representing Canada with pride on the international stage.
