Port Moody police arrested a Vancouver man twice on Sunday after he was found intoxicated and later driving recklessly. Authorities say the incident involved speeds nearly two and a half times the legal limit.
Officers were first called at about 1:45 a.m. to the Moody Centre area following a disturbance at a wedding. Police say Good Samaritans had taken car keys from the man to prevent him from driving while intoxicated. After losing his keys, the man became agitated, prompting the call to police.
The man was arrested for breach of peace as a preventive measure. Officers transported him home to Vancouver, advising him to return for his parked vehicle later when sober.
However, at around 3:50 a.m., Port Moody officers observed a vehicle speeding at 123 km/h in a 50 km/h zone near the police station on St. Johns Street. Upon stopping the vehicle, they discovered it was the same man who had been taken home earlier. He reportedly used a ride share to return to Port Moody to retrieve his car.
The 29-year-old driver was arrested for impaired driving. Police confirmed he remains in custody until sober. He faces charges under the Motor Vehicle Act, a driving ban, and vehicle impoundment. A high-risk driving report has also been filed with Road Safety B.C.
Second Suspect Arrested in Duncan Kidnapping
In a separate case, Duncan RCMP arrested a second suspect connected to an alleged kidnapping. A 34-year-old man with no fixed address is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
Police said the incident occurred near Queen’s Street last Wednesday. Surveillance footage reportedly showed two men assaulting a third man and placing him into a vehicle. Officers later located the suspect vehicle during patrols, leading to the arrest of the first suspect and seizure of the vehicle. The victim was found safe.
Thursday, Jamie Peckett was charged with kidnapping, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He remains in custody awaiting his next court date.
Both investigations highlight ongoing police efforts to maintain public safety and hold suspects accountable. Authorities are urging residents to report any relevant information to assist with their inquiries.
