A West Coast Express train in Port Moody was briefly halted Tuesday after a pickup truck collided with it near Reed Point Way. The crash occurred around 7:20 a.m., prompting emergency response and a temporary train stoppage.

Port Moody Police report that the truck driver likely went around a lowered railway crossing arm, causing the collision.

“There’s a small crossing at Reed Point Marina off Barnet Highway. There are signal arms and lights that warn when a train is passing. My understanding is the motorist ignored the signals and went around the arm,” said Constable Sam Zacharias.

The truck spun into a nearby ditch after the impact. The driver was ejected and suffered significant injuries. Police confirm the injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

Authorities have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

Several witnesses provided statements at the scene, and police continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Port Moody Police Department.

TransLink confirmed that train service has resumed. No passengers on board the train were injured. The train involved was stopped for about one hour.

Constable Zacharias warned that more train delays could occur Tuesday while crews remove the truck from the tracks.

Emergency responders worked quickly to secure the area and provide care to the driver. The collision underscores the dangers of bypassing railway crossing signals, authorities said.

Officials urge drivers to always obey crossing signals, which are in place to prevent accidents. Zacharias emphasized that even a brief attempt to go around a lowered arm can have serious consequences.

The investigation remains active, with police collecting additional evidence and reviewing witness accounts to understand exactly how the crash unfolded.

Rail service near Reed Point Way is expected to return to normal once the vehicle is fully cleared from the tracks.

Authorities continue to monitor traffic and train schedules as they manage the aftermath of the incident.
