A cyclist has died after a serious crash with a pickup truck in Saanich, British Columbia. The incident happened at around 11:45 a.m. on July 28. It took place at the intersection of Quadra Street and Greenridge Crescent, close to the Lochside Trail crossing. This area is often used by both cyclists and pedestrians.

Emergency crews arrived quickly after the collision. Two ambulances and a paramedic supervisor were sent to the scene. The injured cyclist was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts to save the individual, the cyclist later died from their injuries. On August 5, the BC Coroners Service confirmed the death and said that an investigation is now underway. Since the case is open, no more details are being shared at this time.

Saanich Police confirmed that the driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene after the crash. Officers seized the vehicle for further examination. This is part of the process to better understand how the incident occurred. Police expressed sympathy to those affected by the loss. In a statement, they offered condolences to the victim’s family and said that support services have been provided.

The crash led to the full closure of Quadra Street in both directions. Traffic was blocked for several hours while investigators studied the scene. Teams involved included traffic safety officers, crash analysts, and forensic identification specialists. They worked together to collect all the evidence needed.

The investigation has now been handed over to the Saanich Police Major Crime Unit. This unit often handles more complex or fatal incidents. Officers are working to piece together the full story and understand every factor that may have played a role. Their goal is to ensure that justice is served and to help prevent similar accidents in the future.

Last week, police reached out to the public for help. They asked anyone who saw the crash or has video footage of the scene to come forward. People can contact the department at 250-475-4321. Eyewitness accounts and video clips can provide key details that help explain what happened in the moments before the crash.

The area where the collision took place is a well-used crossing near the Lochside Trail. This popular path is a favorite among local cyclists, runners, and walkers. The incident has raised fresh concerns about road safety, especially at intersections shared by both cars and bikes. Many residents are calling for better safety measures in such zones.

The death of the cyclist has left the community in shock. While the identity of the victim has not been made public, support has been offered to their family and friends. This tragic event adds to a growing list of serious crashes involving cyclists in the region. It also reminds both drivers and riders of the need to be extra careful, especially in mixed-traffic areas.

Police are continuing their work to understand what led to the crash. They are checking the condition of the vehicle, reviewing road markings, and studying the timing of the events. Officials say it is too early to draw firm conclusions. However, they are treating the case with care and attention.

For now, the focus remains on collecting facts, supporting the victim’s loved ones, and ensuring the public stays informed. Safety remains a top concern for everyone involved. More updates are expected once the investigation makes progress and more details become available.
