A tragic accident has claimed the life of a hiker near Squamish, British Columbia. The hiker fell into Crooked Falls, a scenic but steep waterfall located in the Squamish Valley. The incident happened on Thursday evening, prompting an immediate emergency response.

Local police confirmed they received a call around that time reporting a person had fallen while hiking in the area. Search and rescue crews were quickly dispatched to the scene. Despite their efforts, the hiker was found without signs of life and was declared dead at the location.

Due to the steep, dangerous terrain and fading daylight, rescue crews were unable to safely recover the body that evening. Teams returned to the site the following day, Friday, to complete the recovery operation. It took time and care to bring the body out of the area, which is known for being hard to reach.

Officials say there is no evidence of foul play in this incident. The case remains under investigation by the BC Coroners Service, which is working to determine the official cause of death. The name, age, and gender of the hiker have not yet been released, and authorities have not shared further personal details.

Crooked Falls is a popular hiking spot for outdoor lovers. The trail leading to the falls is well-known for its views but also for its steep and sometimes slippery paths. Many hikers are drawn to the site for the waterfall’s natural beauty and the peaceful setting, but officials often remind visitors to take extra care in such areas.

Local safety teams urge hikers to always be prepared when heading into remote or rugged trails. Weather and trail conditions can change quickly, especially in the mountain regions around Squamish. It’s important to wear proper gear, check trail updates, and never hike alone.

Squamish Search and Rescue teams are trained to handle complex and dangerous rescues, but they also rely on the public to follow safety guidelines. The group responded swiftly in this case and worked through difficult conditions to recover the victim with respect and care.

The community around Squamish is deeply connected to nature, and news of this fatal fall has brought sadness to many who live nearby and those who regularly hike in the area. Crooked Falls, though beautiful, serves as a reminder that even well-loved nature spots can pose serious risks.

Authorities have not shared when a full report from the coroner will be released, but they have confirmed that all recovery work is now complete. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, but no criminal activity is suspected.

This tragic event highlights the importance of safety when exploring outdoor areas, especially near cliffs, rivers, and waterfalls. Visitors are encouraged to take extra care and to follow marked paths to avoid potential dangers.

As the summer hiking season continues, officials stress the need for caution, respect for nature, and preparation for any journey, no matter how short or familiar it may seem.
