Victoria’s own rock band Three Sailing Wait is back in the spotlight this weekend. The group will celebrate a brand-new record with a show at the Phoenix Bar & Grill on Saturday, August 23. Sharing the stage with them will be local favorites Conjure Hand Music and Odd Sum Band.
The performance comes one day after the band launched its latest project, a six-track extended play called Marsec Level 2. For the four-piece rock outfit, the release is both a milestone and a way to connect with their growing fan base.
The group’s journey began in an unusual setting. Instead of starting in traditional venues, they first played curling bonspiels at the Victoria Curling Club. Their live presence then expanded to local sports events, including several appearances at Victoria Royals hockey games. These early shows gave them confidence and a platform to start building original songs.
According to Cam, who sings and plays bass, writing new music soon became the band’s focus. “We started out just playing the music we loved, but the more we played together, the more we wanted to create our own material,” he explained. “This EP is the result of that process. It’s a way to share the songs we’ve been shaping for years.”
The recording of Marsec Level 2 took place in a unique setting. The band rented a small red cabin outside Duncan, a spot they nicknamed “Little Red.” Each part of the cabin became part of the studio. Amplifiers filled the kitchen and bathrooms while the drums took over the living room. The band spent the weekend capturing raw energy, recording take after take, before later refining the tracks into their finished form.
For Cam, the recording experience was as important as the music itself. “It was just a weekend of rocking out, capturing everything we’d been writing, then shaping it later. It was a blast,” he said.
Among the tracks on the EP, the group feels especially proud of Bureaucrat Boogie. Cam describes it as the one song guaranteed to get people moving. The tune carries special meaning for the band since many of its members are connected to public service work. “It’s kind of an ode to the people you see streaming downtown every morning,” Cam noted. “It’s our only boogie and we hope it gets the dance floor moving.”
Fans attending Saturday’s show will also hear the live debut of Cease and Desist, a brand-new track not included on the EP. Cam hinted that it delivers a rebellious spirit. “If you like rock and roll and sticking it to the man a little, you’ll like this one,” he said with a smile.
The lineup for the night features three local bands. Odd Sum Band will kick off the event, followed by Three Sailing Wait as the middle act. Conjure Hand Music will close out the evening. Doors at the Phoenix Bar & Grill open at 8 p.m., with entry priced at $15 at the door.
For fans of the local music scene, the night promises more than just songs. It is a celebration of Victoria’s community of performers and the connections built between musicians and their audience. Cam emphasized the energy behind the event. “It’s going to be a high-energy night with three great Victoria bands,” he said. “We’re excited to celebrate the EP and have a raucous time with everyone.”
The release of Marsec Level 2 signals the band’s next step as they move from local gigs to creating a more defined musical identity. By blending humor, energy, and storytelling into their tracks, Three Sailing Wait shows they are ready to expand their reach beyond curling clubs and sports arenas.
The excitement surrounding this Victoria rock band release highlights how grassroots beginnings can evolve into polished projects. With new songs in hand and a strong stage presence, the band is set to make Saturday’s show a memorable night for local fans and newcomers alike.
