The Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) has successfully reached its $120,000 fundraising target to support the relocation and expansion of its West Kelowna branch. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the food bank’s mission to provide better service to those in need.

In May, COFB moved into a larger facility at 203-3710 Hoskins Road in West Kelowna. The new space has made day-to-day operations smoother for staff and volunteers. It also improved the experience for clients who rely on the food bank’s support.

The funds raised are being put toward essential infrastructure upgrades. These include a new movable freezer and refrigerator, upgraded electrical and plumbing systems, cleaning equipment, and supplies that enhance the quality of client services.

Trina Speiser, the director of development at COFB, praised the community’s effort. She said, “This project shows what can happen when a community unites with a shared goal of helping each other. We are very thankful to everyone who gave their support to strengthen services in West Kelowna.”

Since the move, the West Kelowna location has started a “partial choice” food model. This allows clients to pick fresh items like fruits, vegetables, dairy, and meats along with their usual food hampers.

The food bank explained that this model helps give clients dignity and choice. It also aims to cut down on food waste and promote healthier eating habits.

The successful fundraising campaign and the move to a bigger space reflect COFB’s ongoing commitment to fighting hunger in the Central Okanagan region. With improved facilities and a client-focused approach, the food bank is better equipped to meet the needs of the community.
