West Kelowna may soon provide an update on the Sean Feucht concert, which is set to take place at Memorial Park on Saturday, August 23. The announcement could come on Tuesday, August 20, according to a statement from the city.
Feucht, an American Christian musician, author, and activist, is currently on his “Let Us Worship” tour across Canada. His shows have sparked both support and strong opposition. Advocacy groups and Pride organizations have raised concerns about his public activism, which critics describe as anti-2SLGBTQIA+ and tied to far-right Christian nationalist movements.
A separate rally called “Love Over Hate” is also planned at West Kelowna City Hall on the same day as the concert. Organizers say it is meant to stand for inclusion and counter the messages associated with Feucht’s activism.
Local leaders and groups have already voiced their opposition. The Kelowna Pride Society Board of Directors warned in late July that allowing the show to proceed on public grounds could amplify harmful messages. The group stressed that city officials have a duty to safeguard the well-being of all residents.
The City of West Kelowna previously clarified that the booking for Feucht’s concert is a private event. Officials noted it is not sponsored or endorsed by the city, even though it is being held in a public space.
Elsewhere in British Columbia, similar events have faced hurdles. On July 30, the City of Abbotsford denied a permit for Feucht’s scheduled August 24 concert at Mill Lake Park. City officials cited safety risks, explaining that the event could attract large numbers of protesters and counter-protesters. After the permit was denied, the concert was moved to private land in south Abbotsford. The new venue appears to be a farm or field, according to online maps.
Feucht’s Canadian tour began on July 23 in Nova Scotia. Since then, several of his planned shows have been canceled or relocated due to public pressure and security concerns. Still, some events remain confirmed, including concerts in Saskatoon on August 21 and Edmonton on August 22.
The musician’s activism has long drawn attention. He gained a following during the COVID-19 pandemic by criticizing restrictions on worship services. In 2022, he led a protest against The Walt Disney Company in Florida after it opposed anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. U.S. media outlets have also described him as a “MAGA superstar” for his vocal support of former President Donald Trump.
Supporters of Feucht describe him as a faith leader, author, missionary, and founder of several international movements. His website highlights his work as a speaker and activist who aims to spread messages of worship and revival.
But critics argue that his activism often crosses into harmful territory. Advocacy Canada recently called attention to his public statements and campaigns, labeling them as exclusionary and dangerous to LGBTQ+ rights. The organization encouraged residents to join peaceful rallies in response to his upcoming events.
As the West Kelowna concert date approaches, the city is under pressure to respond. Residents and advocacy groups continue to question the decision to allow the show at Memorial Park, while others argue that private events should not face restrictions if permits are in place.
With tensions rising, all eyes are on the city’s next update. The announcement expected on August 20 could decide whether the Sean Feucht concert will go ahead as planned or face new challenges.
