West Kelowna firefighters quickly contained a small brush fire on Friday afternoon.

The fire broke out around 1 p.m. in a grassy and wooded area off McDougall Road, near the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It produced a brief plume of smoke visible from nearby streets.

Fire crews arrived promptly and extinguished the flames shortly after reaching the scene. No injuries or property damage were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity or signs of fire in the area.

Local fire officials praised the rapid response, noting that quick action is key to preventing small fires from spreading in dry conditions.

Brush fires are common in the region during this season due to dry grass and warm temperatures. Residents are reminded to avoid open flames and properly dispose of cigarette butts to reduce fire risk.

The fire department continues to monitor the area to ensure the fire does not reignite. Residents nearby were briefly inconvenienced but the situation was contained before it escalated.

Officials say that community awareness and prompt reporting help firefighters act quickly. They encourage locals to keep emergency numbers handy and follow fire safety guidelines, especially during periods of high fire risk.

Authorities also emphasized the importance of clearing dry vegetation around homes and properties to create defensible space against potential fires.

The small brush fire serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance during the dry season. Fire crews remain on alert across West Kelowna to respond to any new incidents.

No evacuations were necessary, and the area has returned to normal. The swift handling of the fire demonstrates effective coordination among local emergency services.

Residents are asked to stay informed about fire warnings and advisories issued by the local fire department. These updates help communities stay safe and prevent larger incidents.

Fire officials confirmed that no animals or structures were harmed during the fire. They thanked the first responders for their quick and professional work.

The public can expect further updates if the investigation reveals more information about the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, everyone is reminded to exercise caution and maintain safety measures around open spaces.
