On Sunday, a Harbour Cruises sightseeing vessel ran aground near Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver, resulting in one passenger injury. The MV Harbour Princess, the company’s flagship boat, was carrying 41 passengers at the time.
The cruise operator confirmed the vessel did not take on water after the incident. Only one passenger suffered a minor injury. The vessel itself was not damaged.
Despite running aground, the MV Harbour Princess was able to return to Coal Harbour without assistance but was escorted by search and rescue boats as a safety measure.
Built in 1994, the vessel has now been taken out of service for a thorough inspection, conducted as a precaution. The company said the Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident.
Harbour Cruises expects the vessel to be back in operation within seven to ten days after inspection and necessary repairs.
Company owner Graham Clarke expressed his sympathy for the affected passengers and thanked emergency responders for their quick support. The company also confirmed that all passengers on the affected voyage received full fare refunds.
The incident has raised questions about safety and navigation in the area, but Harbour Cruises assures customers that all proper safety protocols are being followed.
The company remains committed to passenger safety and transparency as the investigation continues.
