White Rock police arrested three people on Tuesday evening following a serious incident in the city. Officers were called to the area of Thrift Avenue and George Street shortly after 5:30 p.m.
According to a police spokesperson, the situation was considered serious, and officers were sent to respond quickly. The Emergency Response Team (ERT) also joined local police at the scene.
The police presence grew fast, with witnesses reporting up to 20 police cars in the area. Officers blocked parts of the street as they worked to secure the scene and investigate what had happened.
Chantal Sears, a spokesperson for the local police, confirmed that all three individuals were taken into custody. She added that officers were still working to fully understand the events.
No details have been released yet about what led to the incident. Police have not said whether anyone was hurt or if any weapons were found. However, the fast arrival of the Emergency Response Team shows the seriousness of the situation.
Witnesses nearby said they were surprised by how many police vehicles arrived. Some described the scene as tense, with flashing lights and officers moving quickly through the area.
One witness said she had never seen so many police in White Rock before. “I counted around 20 cars. It was shocking,” she said.
Local businesses and residents near the area were advised to stay indoors while officers carried out their work. Some shops chose to close early, and a few roads were temporarily closed for safety.
Police have not shared the names of the people arrested. They also have not revealed what charges, if any, are being considered. Officers said that the investigation is still in its early stages and more information will be shared when available.
Authorities thanked the public for their patience and asked anyone who saw what happened to contact the police. They are especially looking for any video footage or photos taken near the time of the incident.
As of now, the area around Thrift Avenue and George Street has returned to normal, but officers are continuing their investigation.
Police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety, and all necessary actions have been taken to ensure the community remains secure.
The reason behind the emergency response is still unknown, but police say they are committed to finding out the facts. Updates are expected in the coming days as more details become clear.
