A person has died after being shot inside a taxi in Langley, B.C., on Friday night, according to police.

Langley RCMP said they responded to calls of a shooting near the intersection of 200 Street and 53 Avenue just before 10:30 p.m. PT. First responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim did not survive.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) confirmed there was only one victim and no other injuries were reported. Authorities are also investigating an address a few blocks away, in the 20200 block of 53A Avenue, in connection with the incident.

Police said they are working to identify the victim and determine whether the death is linked to ongoing gang-related activity in B.C. “At this point, it is too early to provide additional details about the victim and motive,” IHIT said in a news release.

Investigators are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact IHIT. Officials emphasized the importance of public assistance in helping to solve the case.

The incident comes amid continued concerns over gang violence in the region. Police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Langley residents were reminded that the area near 200 Street and 53 Avenue remains an active investigation site. Law enforcement continues to gather evidence while ensuring public safety in the surrounding community.

The fatal shooting in a taxi is under active investigation, with police reviewing video, witness accounts, and forensic evidence. Authorities aim to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting and identify any suspects involved.

Police have not released the name or age of the victim, citing the early stage of the investigation and the need to notify family members. The community is being asked to provide tips or any relevant information to help advance the case.

This tragic incident adds to ongoing concerns about public safety in Langley, highlighting the need for vigilance and cooperation between residents and law enforcement. Police have committed to providing updates as new information becomes available.
