A residential area in Surrey was shaken by reports of gunfire on Sunday afternoon. The Surrey Police Service (SPS) confirmed it is investigating the incident, which happened near 96 Avenue, just west of 152 Street.

Sgt. Tige Pollock, Media Relations Officer with the SPS, stated that members of the Surrey RCMP Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) are on the scene. Officers responded after multiple calls from the public reported loud popping sounds, believed to be gunshots.

Local resident Stephen, who contacted a radio station, said he saw a gun shell on the driveway of one of the homes. He did not report seeing anyone hurt or any damage to the property. Stephen’s observation supports the early belief that a firearm was discharged in the area.

The police have not yet confirmed whether anyone was targeted or if the shots were random. There are no reports of injuries at this time, and it is still unclear how many shots were fired. Investigators are gathering evidence and speaking with residents in the area.

The area where the shots were heard is typically quiet, with families and children living nearby. The incident has raised concerns among those living in the neighborhood. Several neighbors say they were startled by the sudden noise and remained indoors while police secured the area.

Officers are canvassing the neighborhood, checking for security footage, and speaking with anyone who might have seen something suspicious. Police are urging residents to remain calm and report any helpful information that could aid the investigation.

So far, no arrests have been made. The police have also not released details about any potential suspects or vehicles involved. Investigators are working to determine if this was a targeted shooting or if it posed a risk to the wider community.

Police ask anyone who heard or saw anything unusual near 96 Avenue and 152 Street around the time of the incident to come forward. Tips can be shared with the Surrey Police Service or through anonymous reporting services.

Gun violence in suburban areas continues to be a concern for both police and the public. Authorities are taking this case seriously and have promised a thorough investigation.

The SPS is expected to release more information as the case develops. They are reminding the public to stay alert and to report anything that seems out of place. Anyone with a security camera or dashcam footage from the area is especially encouraged to contact police.
