A tragic collision on Burnaby Mountain Parkway early Thursday morning has left one person dead and two others hospitalized, according to Burnaby RCMP and B.C. Emergency Health Services.

Emergency responders were dispatched just after 4:00 a.m. following reports of a serious motor vehicle accident along the parkway. The crash occurred in the westbound lanes, prompting RCMP to shut down the road in both directions as they investigated the scene.

Burnaby RCMP later confirmed that one person had died as a result of the crash. Paramedics transported two additional individuals to the hospital, both in stable condition, according to B.C. Emergency Health Services.

Photos from the scene show police tape cordoning off the area, with a police cruiser and two TransLink buses visible in the background. The nature of the vehicles involved in the crash and the cause of the collision have not yet been publicly disclosed.

TransLink posted an alert at around 5:30 a.m., announcing detours for the R5 and 144 bus routes to Simon Fraser University due to the incident.

Cpl. Michael Kalanj of the Burnaby RCMP stated that it was unclear when the roadway would reopen and added that more information would be provided later in the day.

Authorities are urging anyone with dashcam footage or information related to the crash to contact Burnaby RCMP as investigations remain ongoing.
