Michael J. Fox is returning to acting after a few years with a guest role in the third season of the Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking. The show is currently filming, and while details about Fox’s character remain secret, fans are excited about his return.
Fox is a five-time Emmy winner known for his long career in television and film. His last acting appearance was in 2020 on The Good Fight, where he reprised his Emmy-nominated role as attorney Louis Canning. Since then, Fox has focused on his advocacy work, living with Parkinson’s disease for over 30 years. He has raised more than $2 billion for Parkinson’s research through his foundation.
The series Shrinking already includes Parkinson’s in its story. Harrison Ford’s character, Paul Rhoades, was diagnosed with the disease in the first season. This makes Fox’s guest role especially meaningful to the show.
Fox’s involvement is also a reunion with one of the show’s co-creators, Bill Lawrence. The two previously worked together on the ABC sitcom Spin City, which was Lawrence’s first show as a creator. Fox also appeared on Scrubs, another series created by Lawrence.
Joining Fox in season three are actors Jeff Daniels, Sherry Cola, and Isabella Gomez. The main cast continues to feature Jason Segel, who also co-created the show, Harrison Ford, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley.
Shrinking was created by Jason Segel, Bill Lawrence, and Brett Goldstein. The executive producers include Segel, Lawrence, Goldstein, Neil Goldman, James Ponsoldt, Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer, Randall Winston, Annie Mebane, Rachna Fruchbom, Brian Gallivan, Ashley Nicole Black, and Bill Posley. Production is handled by Warner Bros. Television and Lawrence’s Doozer company.
The series blends comedy and drama while exploring serious themes such as illness and personal growth. With Fox’s addition, season three is set to deepen its storytelling and continue its critical success.
