Three wildfires broke out east of the Central Okanagan on B.C. Day, with crews working to contain the blazes.
The largest fire, west of Keefer Lake, covers two hectares. It was discovered Monday, August 7, at 3:47 p.m. BC Wildfire Services reports that the cause is suspected to be lightning. The fire is currently out of control, and crews are monitoring its spread closely.
Two smaller spot fires were also reported. One is at Home Creek, just north of Graystokes Provincial Park, and the other is at Bison Lake. Both cover only 0.009 hectares and are also believed to have been sparked by lightning.
Authorities continue to monitor all three fires, emphasizing the importance of fire safety in the region. While the smaller fires are minor, the Keefer Lake fire remains a concern due to its size and current lack of containment.
Residents and visitors in the Central Okanagan are advised to stay alert and follow any fire safety instructions issued by local authorities. Fire crews are working diligently to prevent the wildfires from spreading to nearby forested areas and properties.
The recent lightning storms in the region have increased the risk of wildfires, making rapid response crucial. Officials remind the public to report any new fires immediately to help contain them before they grow.
BC Wildfire Services continues to update the status of the fires as containment efforts progress. The focus remains on protecting the surrounding communities, natural habitats, and infrastructure from potential damage.
