Richmond police are seeking video footage of a fire at a 7-Eleven in the city centre. The fire, believed to be arson, occurred early on Sunday, August 17, on the 8300-block of Granville Avenue near St. Albans Street.

Social media posts show flames outside the store and someone attempting to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. Richmond RCMP said a person of interest has been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone who has video footage of the incident to share it directly with them. Officers noted that sharing this information ensures it becomes part of the official investigation and helps hold those responsible accountable.

An employee at the store reported the fire. Richmond Fire-Rescue responded quickly and extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported.

Cpl. Melissa Lui, a Richmond RCMP media relations officer, said authorities are aware that some video clips have circulated on social media. They urge witnesses or those with footage to contact the Richmond RCMP.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Richmond RCMP non-emergency line at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 25-26618.

The RCMP continue to investigate the cause of the fire and encourage the public to assist by providing any details or recordings that could help identify those responsible.

Richmond residents are reminded to report any suspicious activity near commercial areas to local authorities. Early reporting helps police respond faster and prevent further incidents.

The incident highlights the importance of community cooperation in keeping city areas safe. Police emphasize that even small pieces of evidence, such as phone videos or dashcam recordings, can significantly aid investigations.

Authorities also advise that anyone capturing footage of similar incidents should preserve the original files without editing to maintain their integrity for legal proceedings.

The Richmond 7-Eleven fire is part of ongoing efforts by local police to monitor and prevent criminal activity in city centres. Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and report concerns immediately.

Police said the investigation remains active, and updates will be provided as new information emerges.
