Richmond’s newest member of Parliament, Chak Au, is officially opening his constituency office this weekend. The office is located at #303-4940 No. 3 Road in Richmond City Centre, inside the Alderbridge Place complex between Alexandra Road and Alderbridge Way.
According to recent House of Commons expenditure reports, Au paid $5,110 in both June and July to Prospero International Realty Inc. for office rent. In comparison, Parm Bains, Liberal MP for Richmond East-Steveston, pays $6,118 in rent and related fees for his office on Coppersmith Way.
Au was elected to Parliament in the April federal election as a Conservative, defeating Liberal Wilson Miao, who served one term representing the former Richmond Centre riding.
Before his election to Parliament, Au served as a city council member. He chose to remain on city council temporarily to avoid triggering a by-election and has committed to donating his council salary to charity.
The Richmond Centre-Marpole MP has also been appointed to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security. This role involves reviewing legislation, policies, and programs related to public safety at the national level.
Residents of Richmond Centre-Marpole who need help with federal matters can now contact Au’s office directly. Constituents can reach out via email at chak.au@parl.gc.ca or by phone at 604-235-8990. The office aims to provide support on issues such as immigration, federal benefits, and community funding programs.
The opening of the office reflects Au’s commitment to staying connected with the community and providing local support while serving in Parliament. Officials noted that having a centrally located office in Richmond City Centre will improve accessibility for residents seeking assistance.
Au’s approach to office management, including the cost-effective rental arrangement, has been highlighted as a model for maintaining transparency and accountability in public office. By choosing a moderate rental rate compared with other MPs, Au emphasizes fiscal responsibility in his operations.
Community leaders and residents have expressed interest in engaging with Au’s office to discuss local and federal concerns. The office is expected to host meetings, consultations, and events to address public inquiries and promote civic participation.
The opening marks an important milestone for Richmond Centre-Marpole, as residents now have a dedicated local office to connect with their federal representative. Au’s dual focus on public service, both at the city and federal levels, aims to strengthen local representation and ensure constituents have access to support for federal programs and policies.
By establishing a fully staffed office, Au can respond promptly to requests and provide information about federal initiatives. The office will also serve as a point of contact for residents seeking guidance on legislative matters, community projects, and public safety issues.
The launch of this constituency office underlines the importance of local engagement for MPs. Richmond residents are encouraged to visit or contact the office to access services, discuss concerns, and participate in community-focused initiatives.
