A major fire at a construction site in Langley, B.C., forced nearby road closures and residential evacuations early Sunday morning.

Police reported the blaze just before 4:15 a.m. PT at a building under construction near 201 Street and Fraser Highway in the suburban Metro Vancouver area.

Photos from the scene show large flames engulfing the structure, creating thick smoke visible from surrounding streets. Authorities acted quickly to protect residents in nearby homes, evacuating them as a safety precaution.

Langley RCMP confirmed no injuries occurred during the fire. Officers have closed roads in the immediate area to ensure public safety and to allow emergency crews to contain the blaze. Drivers are urged to avoid the area until further notice.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact them and reference file number 2025-26994.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly, and crews are working to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings. The structure, still under construction, suffered significant damage, though details on the extent of the loss have not yet been released.

Residents nearby described seeing flames and smoke rising above the construction site. “It was huge and very scary,” said one witness. Authorities emphasized the importance of following evacuation instructions to stay safe.

Firefighters are coordinating with police to manage the scene, secure the area, and investigate what caused the fire. Officials said the early morning timing of the blaze likely prevented injuries, as few workers or residents were in the area at the time.

Langley RCMP continues to ask for public assistance to gather information that may help determine the fire’s origin. Anyone who may have seen the incident or captured video footage is encouraged to come forward.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns around fire safety at construction sites. Officials remind contractors and workers to follow strict fire prevention protocols to protect workers and nearby communities.

Authorities are also reviewing safety procedures for evacuations and road closures during emergencies to reduce risks for residents and first responders.

Traffic disruptions are expected throughout the morning, and drivers are advised to plan alternate routes while the scene remains active. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available from investigators and emergency services.

The fire serves as a reminder of the rapid response required for emergencies in growing suburban areas like Langley. Quick action from police and firefighters prevented a potential disaster, ensuring no injuries were reported despite the size of the blaze.

Police are expected to release further updates once investigators determine the cause of the fire and assess the total damage to the construction site.

Langley residents and commuters are encouraged to stay informed and follow official guidance until the roads are reopened and the area is deemed safe.
